A 2022 Christmas Trip Report

This is our 2022 Christmas trip report. It narrates our experiences during our three-week trip to Nigeria. There have been several critical takeaways since we started making these annual trips in 2014. Two that readily come to mind are: (1) The average Nigerian is worse off than the previous year. (2) Those of us visiting feel increasingly more concerned about security.

New Year Mass at Amuvi Arochukwu

As we bade farewell to 2018, I did not attend the “cross over mass,” a.k.a. (or formerly known as) midnight mass. I have always ushered in the New Year in quiet reflection with my God in my home. In any event, I attended the New Year day 10am mass at my village church — St. Thomas Catholic Church, Amuvi, Arochukwu, Abia State, Nigeria.

Notes From Owerri, Nigeria

I often travel to Nigeria for Christmas. My destination is my village, Amuvi, in Arochukwu, Abia State. However, I generally spend a few days in the relatively bigger city of Owerri in Imo State before going to the village. Given the bad roads in Nigeria, the 90 mile road trip from Owerri to Arochukwu takes about 3 to 4 hours with private car transportation. Usually, when I get to Nigeria, I like to file some reports back to friends in the United States. This short write up is one such report that describes an experience travelling from Owerri to Arochukwu during the 2018 Christmas trip.
